about

In Hindu and Buddhist belief systems, Samadhi is the ultimate stage of the eight-fold path to enlightenment, the apex of spiritual and intellectual growth where individual and universal consciousness unite. ‘Kuya Sessions: Samadhi’ lives up to its lofty title. It is the culmination of its creators’ decades-long journeys as spiritual seekers and sound healers whose music medicine unites individual and universal consciousness. Poranguí and Amani Friend lead us on a lush musical journey, an exquisite sonic meditation whose beauty draws us to increasingly elevated states of consciousness, offering a glimpse of enlightenment, healing our souls.

‘Samadhi’ is the second offering of the four-part Kuya Sessions. Like the first offering, “Cura,” “Samadhi” provides an aural container for the cutting-edge frontiers of psychedelic-assisted therapy. With or without the psychedelic medicine, these sonic meditations (medicine and meditation share the same etymology) invite listeners to cross the threshold into the realm of shadow and light, uniting the principles of indigenous wisdom, plant medicine rituals, and holistic psychology.

Like icaros, the prayers that shamans chant during ayahuasca ceremonies, the Kuya Sessions amplify and guide the healing journey. The entwinement of ayahuasca and the icaros exemplify the unity of all things, and perhaps it is the potency of that multilayered cosmic serpent that makes the experience of unity so profound and so deeply healing in ceremony. Similarly, ‘Samadhi’ amplifies and guides the therapeutic experience of psychedelic medicine, dissolving our egos, surrounding us in beauty and awe, indelibly impressing upon us the unity of individual and universal consciousness.

Embedded with the sonic signature of the world’s oldest musical lineages and enhanced with field recordings and samples from across the globe, ‘Kuya Sessions: Samadhi’ is best experienced in its “Journey Mix” format, where the boundaries between the three movements are as ephemeral as the voyage itself. In preparation for embarking on this ritualistic path, one is invited to create an environment for inner-exploration with the help of a quiet and dark room, headphones, an eye mask, and an intention of healing and discovery.

‘Samadhi’ draws upon a grounding array of ancient instruments, Tibetan vocalizations, field recordings, and therapeutic musical stylings while showcasing Poranguí and Amani Friend’s magical, multi-dimensional sound. Distilled from the intention of providing listeners a path toward healing and a safe space from which to embark on that odyssey, ‘Kuya Sessions: Samadhi’ will continue to reveal itself with each subsequent visit for all who desire its therapeutic guidance.

The Kuya Sessions were created by Poranguí and Friend for Kuya, a state-of-the-art health clinic in Austin, TX that integrates paradigm-shifting medicine and therapeutics to help people transform their lives into lives they love. ‘Samadhi’ offers seekers a soundtrack for their journeys toward rebalancing, and is now lovingly shared with listeners everywhere on behalf of Kuya and the artists.
